GameHeads & Lifesize
Wade Luthi from Oregon
Tommy Hildebrand from Texas
Cameron Luker from Wisconsin
Billy Hinzman from Washington
Court Chritianson from Iowa
Andrew White from Utah
Had the pleasure of instructing a young man by the name of Andrew from Central Utah. Andrew dove into gameheads and large life-size and as you can see he surfaced with some stellar pieces. Andrew, if I ever invent a self sewing machine for critters, you will be the first to know! Thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy! Keep in touch my friend!
Eric Wald from Alaska
Nate Parris from Washington
Here are some great pieces that Nate put together while he trained at Artistic School of Taxidermy. Nate found out just how important it is to do a good skinning job on your critter in the field as it reflects on how much sewing you have to do when you go to put it together. "My Fingers Hurt" Nate you were fun to teach and I wish you all the success in your taxidermy endeavors and thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
As mentioned in the subject line I believe Artistic School of Taxidermy is TOP NOTCH! I had the opportunity to spend 17 days in the beautiful town of Kooskia Idaho with one of the best in the taxidermy business. Starting a new adventure in life can bring some butterflies to ones stomach, especially when you haven't a clue what your getting yourself into, but I can assure you if you visit Troy Rose you will rest easy once you start your session. I am not the kind of person to spend any amount of money without full research on what I am buying which led up to my choice of schools. The biggest selling points for me, on ASOT, were the fact that the room and board was included and the studio was open 24/7 for the students. After crunching the numbers and comparing them to other schools in the U.S. I had quickly decided that ASOT was the best "bang for you buck". I then studied Troy's work and became excited because if you learn from the best you are already miles ahead of your competition. Now, lets discuss the accommodations. When I arrived, it was pitch black dark and I had no idea where I was but upon waking up in the morning I glanced out the window to see the slice of heaven Troy calls home. Obviously, I am an outdoor enthusiast so the 30+ whitetail deer and 8 turkeys in the yard every morning is awesome. An enormous, very clean, and beautiful house to stay in with some great grub made my stay easy and comfortable. (Troy doesn't mention that he is a great cook on his webpage)
The Brass Tax
As I said earlier, I knew very little about taxidermy but was open minded and ready to learn anything Troy was willing to teach. Troy started me out the first morning with an exercise that I was a little unsure about but upon completion realized the effect it had on my attention to detail for the remainder of my stay. Troy is a true "teacher" and I can attest that he has a lot of patience with his students. I brought with me a couple of extra curricular projects hoping he would give me pointers on and he welcomed those projects with open arms. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, I learned a ton of information, and I highly recommend Artistic School of Taxidermy to anyone interested in the field. In my 17 days I completed 3 deer heads, 1 3/4 life size bear, and 1 raccoon. With Troy's teaching I hope to excel in taxidermy and if I'm lucky I might be half as good as him one day!
I will definitely be a return customer in the future!! Thanks again Troy!!

Calvin Page from Wyoming
Had the pleasure of instructing Calvin on gameheads and large life-size. Calvin came over from Western Wyoming and like many of my students, he was a total newbie. I think after three days of sewing Calvin wanted to throw in the towel, but he stuck it out and well, as you can see, he did a fantastic job on all of his pieces! Again, they were lacking putty and paint, but the foundation of putting a anatomically correct piece together is evident. Great job Calvin, and thanks for choosing ASOT!
"Where to start. I had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks training with Troy. Who in my opinion is a absolute master of his craft! Troys abilities are second to none. I was a total beginner who had always dreamed about doing taxidermy but never had the time. I found myself out of work and decided to research taxidermy schools. I decided to go with the best school i could find and artistic school of taxidermy was it! Troy went above and beyond to get me into school as quick as he could and literally 2 weeks after my intial contact with troy he had rounded up all my specimens and i was learning at his amazing school. Let me just tell you his shop is amazing as well as the accomodations. Troy has an ability to teach and to help you understand exactly how to accomplish turning a mount into a life like peice of art. I did 3 game heads and a life sized mountain lion with custom base during my time at school and with troys training i left 100% confident in my ability to produce life like mounts. I highly recommend anyone thinking about taxidermy to give Troy a call!"

Jesse Pappas from Oregon
Just finished up 10 great days with Jesse out of Western Oregon. Jesse put together a couple of nice blacktails, a nice mule deer and a really nice badger. Jesse will be back in a few weeks to do a few more items. Looking forward to your return my friend!
"Well where do I start....learing taxidermy was special to me because I lost my mom unexpectedly in January. She always wanted me to learn. So after she past I decided to spend 10 day with Troy and had the time of my life and learned so much! When I started looking for schools to start doing taxidermy I didnt know what I wanted or how to start. Troy answered all my questions and more. Not only was I looking to customize what I wanted to do he was able to accommodate the days I could attend. This was a no brainer for me knowing that I was going to be able to do everything I wanted and not only had a GREAT place to stay the food was GREAT too. My son and I went back two weeks later so I could finish up my favorite piece my mallard duck I love it! My son wanted to do a special mount for is papa and Troy helped him make that happen! His papa loves it! If you are thinking about learning taxidermy look no further Troy is the best so dont hesitate just make that call and let him help you through the process! Thanks again Troy look forward to seeing you again!" Jesse

Alycia Schuster from Washington
I feel both honored and blessed to have such great students attend my school. Alycia traveled from Western Washington to learn the frustrating aspects of large lifesize mammals and the not so frustrating gameheads. As you can see from the pictures, Alycia did a beautiful job on her cat! We used Habitat Rock for her cat's base. It wasn't painted yet but was turning out fantastic! Alycia, glad you made it back home in one piece! And thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy for your learning needs!
Sara Moore from Idaho
I just had the pleasure of instructing Sara from Southern Idaho in the areas of Gameheads and Medium Lifesize. Sara brought a moose she harvested last year and she did a fine job on it as you can see! Her husband Jared came along as a non-instructional student and kept us entertained! Sara, I had a great time teaching you the art! Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
Terry Ness from Oregon
Terry from Seaside, Oregon contacted me a few months ago about learning taxidermy. Well let me tell you, after 28 very long days, Terry did just that! What a studious student you were Terry! Your passion to be a great taxidermist showed in everything you did. You did an absolute fantastic job my friend!!! Looking forward to your return for Bases and Habitat!
Paul Anson from Brewster Washington
Paul returned to learn lifesize mounts and to do the finish work on his pieces he did the first time he came. Paul brought a small bear he harvested a couple of years ago. We had to do some major form alterations to make it fit, but it came out fantastic as you can see!
Jenae Knight from Utah
Just finished up with 9 days of instruction with Janae out of Utah. Janae came to learn gameheads, habitat and large lifesize. Janae you did a fantastic job on all your pieces. We ran short on time to do the finish work, but none the less the quality and anatomical correctness speaks for itself! Janae, your brother is going to be very happy with his bear and your elk is going to look great haning on your wall! Safe travels and as always thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
"My time at Artistic School of Taxidermy was awesome! I had researched several programs and decided to go with ASOT because I was able to schedule my class time around work. Troy was very accommodating in that regard, and worked with me to figure out all of my complicated travel logistics. I realized very soon I had absolutely made the right choice. Troy takes 2 students (maximum) at a time, so the personal attention I received was invaluable. I learned methodically and with great attention to detail. Troy is a true artist and has a unique talent for creating beautiful, life-like mounts. Troy refuses to let you do things wrong, so expect a few do-overs and late nights here and there getting every detail perfect. But learning to do things the right way, not the quick way, is what sets his instruction apart. I was amazed at what I accomplished in such a short time, and the quality of the mounts I finished allowed me to get work almost immediately! And....I know that Troy is only a phone call or an email away. His willingness to provide tips and answer questions even after you've left is extremely valuable.
Another awesome thing about ASOT is that your room and board is included in your tuition. Troy's place is amazing! At times I felt like I was on vacation! He cooks your meals (which are all delicious) and will even arrange menus for you if you have certain dietary restrictions. Bottom line.....I'm so glad I discovered this program. Conveniences aside, I will return because I know I'm getting instruction from one of the best in the industry, hands down. Thanks Troy! See you soon with my Swan!"

Dusty Beavers from California
Had a delightful young gal from California come up and spend 10 days learning lifesize and gameheads. We were not able to get the finish work done on the bear or antelope and I was hoping we would get to the habitat on the bear, but we ran short on time. None the less, Dusty, you did a fantastic job on your pieces and I enjoyed teaching you!!! Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
"I just finished up a 10 day class with Troy and I was extremely impressed with my experience. I was really nervous about attending the class (given that I had zero taxidermy skills), but I was pleasantly surprised and confidently coached by Troy. The man has a mountain of patience and endured my very slow pace with everything I worked on. He was able to walk me through the steps on a very ambitious beginner's project and lead me to great looking results. He definitely knows what he is doing, has an amazing artistic perspective, and has the natural ability to teach. I truly believe that any skill level could benefit from his knowledge and experience.
The accommodations were very comfortable and Troy was exceedingly considerate of my food allergy. All of his meals were delicious, I always had a full belly, and I left 10 pounds heavier! He had a spacious shop and the location was breathtaking. My only regret was that I didn't have more time and I am already trying to plan a return trip!"

Karen Nemes from Northern Indiana
Here is a picture of Karen with her projects she worked on during her training. Karen did an excellent job on a Angora Goat and a lifesize raccoon. Karen was from Northern Indiana and was a delight to instruct over the course of six days. Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy.
Joe Kaczmarski from New Hampshire
Spent 6 great days teaching Joe from New Hampshire the art of taxidermy. Joe put together a couple of really nice whitetails and an awesome 1/2 life size bear. As you can see, Joe's pieces came out fantastic! Joe, you were a very meticulous student for detail and perfection! Had a great time teaching you! Thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
"What a great time, I can't say enough good things about the time I spent in this class. Troy was there every step of the way to help me do things the right way and made it a lot easier to learn. The way he explained things and demonstrated techniques really opened my eyes to what really goes into taxidermy when your passionate and want to show it in your work. I thank Troy for being the one to show me what it takes. The wildlife on his property was unreal I saw so many deer and elk I lost count while the company of his shop mascot cooper was fun to have around while putting in long hours in the shop. Troy is very humble about how much he has accomplished as a professional taxidermist and I have no doubt he will soon be known as the worlds best all around taxidermist. Thanks again Troy for the head start in my dream of being a taxidermist."

Tyler Lewis from Salmon Idaho
Just finished up 17 long days with Tyler from Salmon, Idaho. Tyler did several deer heads and a large and medium lifesize piece as well as a bear rug. We used Habitat Rock on the base of Tyler's cougar. Most of the Items Tyler did in class he harvested himself! As you can see, even without the finish work his pieces came out fantastic! Tyler, I enjoyed teaching you the art and thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy. Safe travels my friend!
Dave Yeomans and Lexi Brown from DesLac North Dakota
Well, I must say, I had a first here at Artistic School of Taxidermy Dave and Lexy got engaged when they closed out their training. Lexy did 5 days of gameheads and Dave spent 3 days doing a life-size red fox. I can't wait to see Dave's fox piece finished, it was a really cool piece! Lexy did a fantastic job on both of her deer. She did a pedestal mount on her mule deer. We used Habitat Rock on the back and it came out awesome! Dave and Lexy, I enjoyed teaching you both the art. Safe travels back to North Dakota, and congrats again on your engagement!
My fiance (David) an I chose to go to Artistic School of Taxidermy to learn the art of taxidermy. I spent 5 days working on a whitetail shoulder mount and mule deer pedistal mount. David completed a lifesize fox. I'm a beginner in taxidermy, but I've been saving my money and learning as much as I could before coming to school. David was completely new to taxidermy. Troy was incredibly patient and a wonderful teacher. Troy would explain his techniques and why he uses them. He went out of his way to make sure you understood what you were learning and how to fix or work with the mistakes you may have made. Haha. The accommodations were absolutely stunning. We were able to eat outside on the patio and watch does and turkeys wander around underneath us. The food was wonderful! Cooper, the shop mascot, kept us company during the long hours of sewing and amazed us with how much dirt he could hold in his feathers. I believe that every penny we spent was worth it. I can't wait to come again sometime to learn lifesize and birds. Thanks again for your kindness and patients, you really helped a dream come true for me!
-Sincerely Lexi & David

Jeff Schneider from North Dakota
Just had the pleasure of spending 14 great days teaching Jeff from North Dakota. Jeff came to learn large lifesize and brush up his skills on gameheads. He chose some difficult pieces but as you can see, they all came out stellar. Jeff, I enjoyed teaching you the art, and I hope your son liked his cat. Safe travels my friend!
Kelly Smith from Wyoming
Just finished up 12 incredible days with Kelly from Wyoming. Kelly did some outstanding pieces...and well, I'll let you decide for yourself! We covered minimal form alterations, gameheads and large life-size mammals. Kelly, I enjoyed teaching you the art! Safe travels my friend, and thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
"My name is Kelly Smith from Gillette Wy. I recently completed 12 days of taxidermy training at the Artistic School of Taxidermy with Troy Rose. Completing 3 Shoulder mounts and 1 Lifesize. Where to begin?? First, I am a totally beginner in taxidermy. When I decided to go to a school, there where several aspects that I was concerned about. Time off work was the biggest concern. After researching different schools I discovered that in order to learn the species I was wanting to do, I would be required to take 4 to 6 weeks off of work. That just wasn't going to happen! Then I found Artistic School of Taxidermy via taxidermy.net. I read all the posts of previous students, compared prices and pictures from other schools, and I did the math, not only financially but also time-wise. I called Troy and he answered all my questions and scheduled me for a time that fit my schedule. When I arrived at Troy's, I was amazed at the scenery, his home and the studio. The accommodations are awesome! Food, is great, you will not starve! But most important is the training. Troy is one of, if not the best taxidermist I have ever met! His ability to explain things with patience to a truck driver/drummer trying to do taxidermy was very reassuring for me. I know that I made the right choice in a school and mentor! I will recommend Troy Rose's Artistic School of Taxidermy 110% and I cant wait to go back in the future! 3 o'clock just isn't the same at work! Just sayin. Thanks again Troy! Success"

Brett and Joe from Central Colorado
Well Everyone, here are the results of 17 ass busting days in the Studio with two very dedicated individuals! Brett and Joe from Colorado busted their tails to get all these pieces together..and not to forget Joe's wife Kimberly helped out as well. As you can see, they put together some incredible mounts. They were not able to get habitat and finish work done, but when your mounts come out this good finish work and habitat are but icing on the cake! Great job guys...you brought down the house with your mounts!!! That or you're gonna fill yours up Thanks for giving me the opportunity to teach you art!
"Thanks Troy,
It was an absolute privilege to attend your school. Thanks for all the late night and early morning lessons, trying to keep my projects on schedule. When Troy says the shop is always open he means it. I would have never completed my mounts without being able to put in the hours. I am brand new to the industry with no previous experience so I know that I am a little slower but you never held that against me. Thank You. I don't know how other schools get there projects finished only working 7 to 8 hours a day, and with 5 or 6 people in a class. There where only 2 of us working 12 plus hours a day, 7 days a week and I still dint get to my base work. Troy is not scared to tell you to take something apart and start over if is not perfect. You have an amazing system Troy and it is working out awesomely. The amount of knowledge I came away with is absolutely priceless. You went so far above and beyond my expectations, it was amazing. I am already taking in work from people seeing what I accomplished at school. Wow Troy, Thank You for giving me a great start on a new career. I will be back for an advanced class." Brett

Dave Miller from Oregon
I'm not quite sure where the time went, but 17 grueling days have passed and Dave, my VA Vocational Rehab Student from Oregon emerged with some absolutely fantastic pieces!!! I think when it was all said and done, Dave must have sewn a 1/2 a mile or better between all his critters, and I think we might have killed a few bottles of Pendleton in the process. Dave's relentless determination to succeed showed in the outcome of all of his mounts. Job well done Soldier!!! I'd be honored to have you back anytime!
Lonnie from Idaho
Once again, I don't know where time went, but another 5 days have passed and another great student has emerged from training with some outstanding pieces!!! Lonnie from Pocatello, Idaho came to learn game heads and medium life-size. I had fun teaching you the art!
"Hey Troy, just wanted to let you know what a great time I had at your school! It was worth every penny I spent and the techniques you taught me have really helped me increase my clientele!
I looked around at other schools while trying to figure out where I wanted to go and yours stood head and shoulders above the rest! For me, a school close to home was essential and yours fit the bill. There was one in Montana, but they never returned my call.
Thanks again, and next time I'll bring the beer and rib-eyes I've also recommended your school to others as the best in the country... yeah, I'm a little biased but I don't think I could have gone anywhere else and had such a great time while learning! "

Rodney Glavich from California
Just finished up 7 great days with Rodney from California doing game heads and medium life-size mammals. Rodney brought an absolutely huge blacktail deer that he had know idea what it scored...Let's just say it will be way up there if he ever decides to enter it into the books. Rodney, if you need a place to hang it because your wife won't let you hang it in the house, I have plenty of wall space! We were not able to complete the finish work on the blacktail and raccoon. Rodney put some serious hours into his mounts as they all came out awesome! Rodney, I had a great time teaching you the art!
