Life-Size
Chuck and Fred from Utah
Lonnie Wells from Idaho
Once again, I had the pleasure of instructing a return student on large life-size. Lonnie made his third venture out to ASOT to learn the finer points of doing large life-size mammals. His frustration level hit an all time high, but in the end he prevailed and did a fantastic job on his bear! Lonnie, I enjoyed teaching you the art, and thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
Cody Knigge from Idaho
Here is a nice mountain lion Cody did while he was here. I meet Cody at a Taxidermy Show last summer and he said he would like to learn how to do a good cat. Tackling large life-size mammals is not an easy task, but Cody pulled it off and did a fantastic job on his lion! Cody, you were fun to teach! Send me pics when you get it all done, and as always, thanks again for choosing ASOT!
Barry Joe Clay from San Jacinto California
Had the pleasure of instructing a return student from California. Barry came back to learn more on medium lifesize mammals, form alterations and composition. Barry, as always, I enjoyed your company, your cooking and your willingness to pursue taxidermy as an art! Great job on your piece my friend!
Hello again,
Thats right I'm a returning student to Troy's "Artistic School of Taxidermy!" I had such a good experience the first time I went back at the end of September. I had actually tried to do some mounts at home after my first class and got gun shy at the start. So I sent my racoon pelts to Troy explaining why i wasn't able to get started. The very first day I saw what I should have seen at home and I was off to another great mount. My confidence in my ability to to work at home has increased 100 fold. I'm going to try a red fox next on my own. Everything I learned in the first class came back to me which Troy noted that first morning. I had to really modify one of my forms and this was a new learning experience. It was a great 5 days. I have to say again that Troys' Warm Chicken Ceasar Salad is by far one of his best dinners, make sure he makes it for you when you go to his school (there wasn't a bad meal the whole time). The accomidations are very comfortable and the view from the deck is increadable. i JUST DON'T KNOW HOW YOU COULD EXPECT ANY MORE FROM A TAXIDERMY SCHOOL!!!! I know I'll be back again

Jay Myers from Victor, Idaho...
Just finished up 8 great days with Jay. Jay was a beginner, but his skill level far exceeded that! Folks, all you need to do is look at that cat!!! WOW!!! Jay, you did an AWESOME job on both of your pieces. The pictures speak for themselves. I would also like to add that we used "Habitat Rock" from The Bird Works out of Missoula, Montana www.custombirdworks.com and it was fantastic...great product Dale!!! Now, back to Jay. Jay thanks again for allowing me the opportunity to teach you. You will do well my friend! Looking forward to seeing you in the near future!
"I just finished 8-days with Troy at his studio in Kooskia, Idaho. I have been doing mainly fish taxidermy for the past five years and last fall one of my clients asked if I would do a mountain lion and a goat with habitat for his home here in the Teton Valley, ID. This was my opportunity and after doing my research I contacted Troy to discuss taking on this job. After our first phone conversation I knew I had the right guy. We had to find life-size capes for both animals and get everything in place in a pretty short time frame due to my schedule. When I showed up everything was ready and we were able to get started on this large project without any delay. Troy's attention to detail is apparent in every corner of his studio as well as his home. There is a purpose for everything in the shop and he was very open with his techniques. The fact that I had one-on-one instruction for the duration of my stay made it easy to understand the process for turning out some great pieces. I also liked the fact that the shop was open to me as long as I wanted to work. Most days we got started around 7am and worked till around 10pm. Everything from the meals to the accommodations were first class. Whenever there was an opportunity for a break you could walk around and see plenty of turkeys, deer, and elk on his mountain. I will be back once I have a few more species to get further training. I would recommend Troy's Artistic School of Taxidermy to anyone from beginner to experienced. Troy, I can't thank you enough for your extra effort and for helping me expand my business."
