Shane Mowery from Idaho
Ben Larsen from Wyoming
Stockton Robinson from Idaho
Jim Harrington from Minnesota
Greg Smith from Oregon
Alycia Schuster from Washington
Mike Orner from Oregon
Had the pleasure of instructing a great guy from Southern Oregon. Mike made the trek to learn how to put a nice mule deer together. What made this training experience even more special was the fact that Mike shot the 1/2 life-size last fall and the pedestal bucks were taken the year before by him and his wife! Mike and Lisa, I enjoyed your stay! Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
Amanda Fish from Nevada
Had a great time instructing Amanda from southern Nevada on the basics of gamehead taxidermy. As you can see, Amanda did a fantastic job on all of her pieces. Amanda, I look forward to your return to do life-size mammals and thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
"I wanted to take the time to share my experience at artistic taxidermy. I went there with the hopes of learning just shoulder mounts for my first trip to school. What I received exceeded my expectations. Troy keeps his shop very organized and has very high expectations of how you treat his tools. I noticed immediately that Troy takes tremendous pride in what he does and how he does it. Troy gives a lot of one on time but knows exactly when to step back and let you work on what he’s shown you. His shop has a very laid back atmosphere at the same time while maintaining professionalism. The amount of knowledge I gained from taxidermy alone far exceeded my expectations. The thing I wasn’t expecting to learn was the business aspect of taxidermy. I didn’t realize how much knowledge I would be leaving with in such a short time. Troy has a no nonsense way of motivating you when he can see that you need it. I really believe if I could adopt Troy’s attention to detail, his professionalism and his passion for perfection I think my opportunities will be endless. I’m very much looking forward to returning in the spring to do some life sized mounts. I’m going to soak up every bit of knowledge Troy has to offer. Starting my business I believe I couldn’t have picked a better teacher or school to start this chapter of my life."

Lonnie Wells From Idaho
I am very humbled and blessed to have individuals return to learn and train under me. As I have said before, there are many schools out there for them to choose from and I thank all of you who choose to return to ASOT! Lonnie was here several years ago and did a deer head and a lifesize coyote. This time around, Lonnie concentrated on gameheads, and as you can see, Lonnie did a fantastic job on his moose and deer mounts! Lonnie, it was a pleasure to have you back, thanks again for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy for your learning needs!
"Troy, thanks so much for everything! I had certain points I wanted to focus on this time around and I believe I succeeded... I appreciate your patience and professionalism. Ryan Cranford from Alabama
Ryan traveled all the way from Alabama to learn a little taxidermy out West! I had a great time instructing Ryan on gameheads. Ryan learned the hard way of how valuable a good tan is. Sore fingers and wasted time aside, his pieces came out great! Thanks again for choosing ASOT for your training needs!!!
Lance Seal from Virginia
Lance, it was a pleasure instructing you on the how to's of deer shoulder mounts. Lance traveled over from Virginia for 11 days of training. As you can see, Lance did a fantastic job on his pieces! Lance, thanks for choosing ASOT!
"This is a great place to learn and Troy is an awesome teacher. I came to AST a complete beginner to taxidermy and have walked away with a clear understanding of whitetail shoulder mounts. Troy has lots of great tricks and techniques that will stick with you. The hospitality was top notch. We ate like kings, and stayed in Troy's beautiful home. Out every window is a beautiful view. It was a great experience. Thank you Troy for providing the opportunity to learn from one of the best, in a relaxed setting. I am looking forward to coming back in the future."

Sean Smith from New York
Matt Dockstader from California
I had the pleasure of instructing Matt on some advanced techniques on hogs and deer. Matt traveled up from Central California to do 4 days of training. Had a great time instructing Matt. It was almost as if he was an extension of my hands as he absorbed it like a sponge. His pieces came out stellar and I have no doubt that the knowledge and experience he gained will show in his work that he does back in his shop! Matt, thanks again, and thanks for choosing ASOT!
Aaron Fielden from Oregon
Just finished up 7 long days with Aaron from Central Oregon. Aaron found out the hard way on just how valuable a good tannery is. With all the frustrations and sewing aside, his pieces came out great. I hope everything traveled well and I look forward to your return my friend. Thanks for choosing ASOT!

"I just completed 9 days with Troy at Artistic School of Taxidermy! WOW, what an awesome experience and education I received during the training. This training far exceeded my expectations. The elk, mule deer and antelope came out great and I could not ask for more. Troy's attention to detail is amazing!! What is obvious to Troy is not so obvious to the untrained eye (such as mine). I now have come home and critiqued the mounts I had done with various taxidermist, and notice all the mistakes. I thought they were great mounts, now they only seem relatively good compare to what Troy showed me. I wish I could of finished some of the detail work, but thanks to your training on covering all the aspects of the fine detail work I am confident I can finish these at home. As for any prospective students wanting to get a reference please contact Troy and he will provide my cell number for a honest and account of my personal experience. You will not be disappointed with the training you will receive. I can only say that Troy is the best of the best and he will show you the needed skills to truly master the skill, and then it is up to you to perfect. His accommodations are first class as I travel constantly for my full time job and can attest to the great and fabulous accommodations and meals provided. You will not go hungry and on occasions will need to tell him to dial it down a bit .
I do look forward to scheduling another session in December for life-size bear and cats. Thanks for the professional 1 on 1 training which is invaluable when learning this Art..... "
Thanks Raymond

Kevin Teska from Wyoming
Just had the pleasure of spending 11 great days teaching Kevin from Wyoming. Kevin came to learn gameheads and how to do a nice european mount. Kevin covered the animals he would more than likely take in from where he lives. As you can see, his pieces came out great! Kevin, I enjoyed teaching you the art. Safe travels my friend!
Juston Phipps from Georgia
Just recently finished up 7 fun filled days with Dr. Evil..aka Juston Powers from Georgia. Dr. Evil came out to learn some finer techniques on putting some deer together. Aside from shagging a few grilled tuna sandwiches, Dr. Evil put together some nice whitetails. Juston, it was a pleasure to teach you my friend and I look forward to your return...don't forget to cut a deal with Fat Bastard! As always, I enjoyed instructing you in the art, and thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy for your learning needs!
"I spent 7 days with Troy learning Whitetails. If you are debating or researching "schools", stop at Troy. There is nothing better out there. Aside from the fact that his skill and techniques are miles above the rest (that is not opinion but fact. compare his student's work to other school's work) he is the only one you can custom design your education. I personally do not know many if any people out there that can take 6-10 weeks off from their job to go to taxidermy "school." With Troy you set the days that work for you. You also decide what you are going to learn. Every other school will tell you what and when you are doing something, non negotiable. Learning gameheads, life-size, birds, fish and rugs all in a 6-10 week span is not feasible. The skills will be average at best and very unlikely that you will be able to consistently produce quality. You will also be at the mercy of 6-18 other students learning abilities. Troy teaches no more than two at a time and I personally was there by myself. Troy's teaching method will set you up for success, not failure or mediocrity. He will let you test yourself on the techniques he shows you but somehow is able to tell when the perfect time is to intervene and help so you do not get discouraged. He teaches practical techniques that produce RESULTS and uses products because they work, not because a sponsor is paying him to push a certain line. I strongly encourage everyone to look at his website and review everything. Pay special attention to his cost comparison and accommodations. This should be a no brainer! You will get amazing scenery, food and room to stay in on site! The number one reason to choose Artistic School of Taxidermy is Troy himself. His knowledge and skill is astounding. He is also pretty fun to hang out with so you have a blast while you are learning. I will definitely be a return student like so many others. I personally flew over 2,500 miles to learn from him and it was worth every bit of time and money because I know I learned the right way. Call Troy if you haven't already and get out there!"

Paul Anson from Washington
Just spent 16 great days teaching Paul gameheads and pedestal mounts. Paul came from Eastern Washington to learn the art! Paul prepped and readied several other projects that he will work on when he returns later to finish up gameheads and learn lifesize. Paul, you did a excellent job on all your pieces and I enjoyed teaching you!!! Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
Dennis Orvis from Oregon
it's been a busy Summer at Artistic School of Taxidermy. I can't believe the year is more than halfway over. I can't think all the individuals enough who have attended so far!! Speaking of attend, I had a great student return for 3 more days of intense gamehead studies. Dennis from Southern Oregon did a fantastic job on a nice bull elk he brought. Dennis, thanks for coming back...maybe it is the cooking! Awesome job on your piece my friend!
"I have nothing but good things to say about the Artistic School of Taxidermy. I Just finished my second class and I am excited to do another. For those of you that want to learn from the best, whether you're just getting started or taking advanced classes, the Artistic School Of Taxidermy is a must. Unlike most schools having five to ten students in a class at one time, the Artistic School of Taxidermy is genuine in itself by having one on one time with the teacher/Troy. Troy used the right combination of teaching techniques to help me learn and retain all the skills I needed to be successful on my own. He made me feel right at home and made sure I had everything I needed while I was there including meals and a nice place to sleep. Troy is great at always being available and easy to get a hold of when I'm working outside of the class and need questions answered or advice. I have had such great experiences with Troy, that I couldn't imagine learning anywhere else. I am definitely ready to go back for another class. "

A great guy by the name of Clay ventured from Western Wyoming to come and learn gameheads. Clay, I must say you were a dedicated and diligent student. Cindy Flowers from Colorado
Cindy from Colorado came to learn advanced gameheads and do form alterations. Cindy's mule deer turned out awesome and we went through a couple of lifesize forms covering many problem areas one will encounter when doing lifesize pieces. Cindy, you were a great gal to teach. Safe travels my friend. Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy!
Mike Putnam from Wisconsin
Mike, a past student, came back to learn some finer points on gameheads. Mike brought a couple of bucks he harvested. A nice Sitka Blacktail and an early season Whitetail. Once again, they came out fantastic and they are not even puttied or painted! As always, I enjoyed your company Mike and thank you for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy. Safe travels and good luck on your hunt my friend!
Perry Cooper from Wyoming
Hey Everyone, here are some nice pieces Perry turned out over the course of 5 days of training. Perry, you were a pleasure to teach and I look forward to your return! Thanks for choosing Artistic School of Taxidermy
"I Just spent 5 days with Troy. I can't say enough about the education I got. He is very helpful and very detailed he will tell you what you are doing correct and what you are doing wrong. He is very detailed at what he tells you and why you are doing it this way. I looked at many schools before I found Troy. I am getting a lot of compliments on how good my mounts came out. I am looking forward to going back and having Troy teach me more of the art."

"Well where to begin! Just returned home from the most incredible experience attending Troy's school. First off, I was a total "rookie" when it came to taxidermy. I spent 10 days learning deer heads, antler repair and antler restoration. As many have stated previously the accommodations are 5 star, Troys house and shop are incredible as are all the meals he prepares for you. I think I actually only finished 3 of all the meals he prepared, not because of the quality but the quantity. I was definately not hungry when the meal was over or during the day. As for the training, Troy is definitely the "Professor" of taxidermy. If you are looking for a school to attend, look no further! From day one, Troy's method of teaching, and "system" of putting a piece together can be learned by anyone, I'm proof positive! One look at the heads I put together, and the repairs on the antlers speak volumes as to the attention to detail Troy not only teaches but requires of his students. I can't count how many times I was told "you're close" or "needs work" during the 10 days. If everything isn't perfect you will take it apart and do it again, once again the reason that Troy has achieved the countless accolades he has. When considering schools to attend, I did my research. There are countless "schools" out there, all it took was one look at the quality or lack of was evident from the pictures on the schools websites. Also the one on one delivery provided by Troy is incredible. Your day begins at 8 a.m. and ends at approximately 8 p.m., but the shop is open for you around the clock. I utilized this a couple times to keep on schedule and complete my pieces. There is no doubt, that I can complete the same level of game heads at home after only ten days of training. As I stated before Troy has a "system" that allows anyone to succeed. I will be attending Troy's school again in the future for birds and lifesize. Once again, if you are undecided on what school to attend,LOOK NO FURTHER, Troy's Artistic School of Taxidermy is the only place to attend. Thank you again Troy for teaching me the art and making a dream come true, take care of Cooper."

Just finished up 9 great days with Travis from Southern Colorado. Travis did a nice elk with detachable antlers, a beautiful antelope a mule deer and a rag horn. Travis, you were a pleasure to teach! Hello Everyone, I just finished up 2 great days with Ryan. Ryan came back for his third time to learn gameheads. Not only is my list of friends growing, but also the list of return students as well. I don't know if it's the atmosphere, the food, the instruction or a combination of the three, but whatever it is "Thanks everyone!!!" Ryan, looking forward to your return my friend!

Tyler Anderson from Nevada
Just completed 7 great days with Tyler from Nevada. As are most of my students, tyler was a total newbie to taxidermy. He put in some long hours and it shows as his pieces came out great! Tyler, you were a pleasure to teach. Looking forward to your return and make sure you use the Wildlife Gallery next time !!!
"I spent 7 Days in class with Troy doing game heads and i can say he is a master at his craft and a wonderful teacher. Everything was awesome, Troy has a beautiful home with tons of mounts to look at up on a hill with a great view. The meals were great i garentee you will not go to bed hungry! In 7 days i learned so much from Troy it was alomst to much for my brain to process, i found it mind boggling how simple he makes things happen that you will be pulling your hair out trying to do. All my mounts turned out great even after encountering a couple of problems he showed me exactly how to handle each problem as they arose like it was no big deal. His way of teaching is down to earth and simple to understand, and he goes into extreme detail which helps with understanding why your doing something. The quality of mounts that not only troy produces himself but the work his students put out with his assistance is unmatched! Before this class i thought the mounts i have had done in the years past looked great up on the wall, but after this class i see the lack of detail and cant help but to be disapointed in the work the local guys do! Troy is a great guy and a very gifted taxidermist, i would recommend him to anyone that wants to learn the trade! in the 2 weeks since class i have completed two mule deer mounts that turned out amazing and i could of never done it without troy! I look forward to my return trips to Artistic school of Taxidermy and cant wait to learn something new." Tyler

Bill stiger from Oregon
For the first time I traveled to a student's shop and instructed him on advanced gameheads over the course of 3 days. Bill is from Grants Pass, Oregon and has been to my studio twice for birds and game heads. This time he was tackling an Arapawa Ram and a Pedestal Red Stag. I was a bit sceptical at first but since Bill had trained under me, I knew he would have most of the tools to get the job done, and since I was in the area for some other business, I decided to give it a shot. Things could not have gone better and his mounts turned out awesome!!!

Thomas and Nadia from Colorado
Thomas and Nadia from Gateway, Colorado returned for a 3 day stint. This was Thomas's third time back and Nadia's second. Nadia did a very large black bear rug (not pictured) and Thomas did two sweet muleys and learned advanced mounting techniques. They brought back ALL their pieces from previous teachings to learn finish work. Nadia did her Dall Sheep last time she was here and Thomas did an elk and mule deer. The first time I had Thomas as a student he did two mule deer...his talents have improved greatly! If you cant tell, Thomas has a passion for HUGE mule deer . The Coues deer and his Bull Elk were studs as well!!!
"Last spring was my first experience working with Troy Rose in his beautiful home and studio in northern Idaho. My husband Thomas was back for the third time to continue his education and perfect his skills on big game trophies. Two years ago Thomas worked on a competition mule deer. Last year I began my training on a doll sheep mount and Thomas on a trophy bull elk. Troy is an awesome person to work with. His knowledge of all the skills of the trade is outstanding. He has a profound knowing of anatomy and excels in mule deer, elk, sheep, and lions. Everything I saw in his studio was remarkably well done. Troy has perfected the art of taxidermy. His work comes to life! He guided us through every step of the process and I left with a vast new understanding of what it takes to really bring out the quality in ones work."
"Troy has a beautiful home that sits alone on a hilltop in the hills of Northern Idaho. Deer, elk, turkeys and even bear can be spotted right from the house. Room and board are included. The facility is very modern and very clean. Town is only a twenty minute drive. Troys friendliness and the studios location are like being on vacation."
"Thomas has gained enough knowledge from Troy that he now is able to mount quality mounts at home. We plan on returning again this spring for a three day habitat and finishing course. As outfitters and beginning taxidermist we highly recommend training with Troy. We also recommend Troy Rose's work to many of our clients."

"It doesn't get any better than this folks! We went to train with Troy for the second time and I have no doubt I will be back again. The peaceful serine setting of his studio atop the lush green Idaho mountains gives breathtaking views and abundant wildlife viewing. Surrounded by this was awesome but the true bounty is the experience and knowledge gained from his hands on taxidermy skills. From start to finish we learned the ins and outs of creating the perfect mount. I've learned what to do and what not to do. Troys expertise allows for exponential growth in one's taxidermy skills whether you are looking to learn from the beginning or improve your existing skills. "

Robert Jordan from Montana
After 7 very long days, Robert emerged with some beautiful mounts. The pedestal elk that Robert did was an absolute stunner piece that one would need to see in person to really appreciate...I made multiple attempts to acquire the cape from him but he kept saying it was PRICELESS...what's up with that??? Come on Robert, I thought we were friends...but with all kidding aside, EXCELLENT job Robert!
"I just finished seven days of training with Troy. I wanted to drop a few lines about the training I received. I had been looking for some one on one training for a couple of years, the name Troy Rose came up quit often with high regards. I contacted Troy about some training and he was very flexible with his schedule. Troy was very willing to work around the time frame I had to work with. I brought two mule deer, an antelope, and an elk for the training. We spent seven days and nights in the shop training, the shop was always left open and available for me to work in while I was there. From the time I got there to the time I left I was trying to soak up as much information from Troy as I could. His teaching and ability to make things look so easy are amazing! From the training, to the shop, and living accommodations, everything was first class and more than I expected! Thanks Troy for the great starting foundation in taxidermy." Robert Jordan

Dan from Utah
Hello everyone, Dan came up from Utah and did 5 days of advanced training in Gameheads. Dan had learned the basics from another so called "Taxidermy School"...well, we will just keep it at that...BASIC. The horror stories I hear about some of these other schools blows me away. People, please do your homework. Look at work the student's produce. If it's not quality, you might want to think twice. Anyhow, Dan was not able to get the finish work done, but as you can see, Dan's pieces turned out fantastic! Dan, I had a great time teaching you. You are going to do well my friend. Excellent Job!!!
"To anyone considering going to Troy for training...let me tell you, you will learn much more advanced taxidermy techniques than you will from any other schools in the area. It will put you way ahead on the learning curve and the accommodations are second to none. I think the ultimate compliment in any business is repeat customers and I will definitely be back!"

Lance Nichols from Idaho
Well it seems like Lance just got here, but after 5 long days, Lance from Southern Idaho, completed several really nice pieces!!! Lance came to learn Game Heads and we managed to work in a European elk skull and crate building. Lance did detachable antlers on the elk mount. Great Job Lance!!!
"I went up to Troys in the spring of 2012, the previous year I went to another school that was a 5 week course and had 6 students in it. I learned more with Troy in a week than I did in the 5 week course at the other school! It was such a big difference being taught one on one, compared to other students with you. You go at your own pace and Troys full attention is on you. The week I was up there I completed and Elk shoulder mount with detachables, a mule deer shoulder mount, a European elk, and built a crate for the elk and euro mount. Troy makes it very easy to understand and goes beyond just the basic training. The class room is top notch, with everything you need to get the job done. His home is very nice, its like staying at a 5 star bed and breakfeast, with spectacular views out his huge windows of turkeys, whitetail deer, elk, and the mountains. Troy believe it or not, is a pretty dang good cook too. Plan on gaining some weight while your up there. But I had a blast and learned so much while I was up there, i definitely re comend seeing Troy if you want to learn taxidermy. I know I well be back again." Lance Nichols

Jesse From Eastern Idaho put together a couple of really nice mounts over the course of 6 days. His mule deer aspen pedestal and elk shoulder came out beautiful. Great job Jesse!
